Bringing a Neighborhood Back to Life

The City of Jackson, Mississippi, has been eager to revitalize the University Place of Jackson neighborhood for more than two decades.

The approximately 50-acre neighborhood is located between Jackson State University (JSU) and Jackson’s Central Business District (CBD). Over the last 10 years, both JSU and the CBD have experienced exciting growth, but the community between the two lagged behind.

Thanks to an array of public and private partners, University Place of Jackson will become a walk-able, new urban community, incorporating sustainable, green design elements.

The community will provide new homes and jobs, and it will include a mix of residential, retail and office space. Phase 1A, which includes 78 apartment homes and 22,000 square feet of new retail and office space, will be completed in 2010. Construction of single-family homes will begin in 2010, and planning is underway for additional phases of the community.
