Building Homes, Classrooms and Community Pride

The South Rome Redevelopment Corporation (SRRC) is working with the City of Rome and other partners to revitalize the South Rome community.

Established in 2004, the non-profit SRRC coordinates revitalization efforts that will:

  • Increase affordable and attainable housing options
  • Create an educational pipeline, from cradle to college
  • Increase pride in neighborhoods
  • Reduce criminal activity
  • Attract private investment
  • Improve the appearance of commercial areas
  • Increase jobs
  • Foster private investment
  • Create a business incubator

Affordable Housing Choices

Plans are already being translated into action. The SRRC and Mercy Housing Southeast have partnered to create a new neighborhood, Etowah Village:

  • Phase one will enable 77 seniors and their families to live in a close-knit community along the Etowah River with a true sense of neighborhood and pride of place.
  • Phase two will include multifamily housing and office/community space. Once completed, the Etowah Village neighborhood will provide affordable housing choices in a community where currently there are none.

Residents will also soon enjoy a new streetscape for the South Rome corridor, including new traffic signals, crosswalks, sidewalks, antique lighting and signage, which will connect South Rome to nearby neighborhoods and provide connectivity to the broader community.

New Educational Opportunities

Revitalization will draw families with school-age children back into the community, and the SRRC is working with Rome City Schools to plan and build a new school to serve 540 students. SRRC hopes the new school will include:

  • An Early Learning Center
  • Literacy, Adult Education and GED Courses
  • English as a Second Language Classes
  • Job Training

By holistically addressing the needs of the community, especially in the critical areas of housing and education, the SRRC is committed to revitalizing and rebuilding pride in South Rome.
